What's happening in Syria?
Syria is having a civil war. That means that some people in the country are fighting against other people in the country.
It started because it was ruled by a dictator - President Assad. People protested against him, and he responded by killing and arresting most of the protestors. Soon, fighting broke out all over Syria, which meant it was not safe for many people (bombs, etc.). Since the fighting has gone on so long, there is also a lack of medical care and food.
In addition, there was an extreme religious group known as ISIS that was attacking non-religious people, and people from other religions. They also attacked many of the refugees, just to rob them.
There have been about 4.8 million refugees - about half of which are children.
